Grade at Saint Vitus BrooklynThere aren't a ton of bands from that late 90's-early 2000's that mean more to me than Grade did. It was a time when I was questioning hardcore and what it meant. I was nearing 30 and was going through relationship issues and here comes a band that can play with Sick of It all or with Taking Back Sunday and seem totally at home with both...I already knew of the band in 98 but it was Under The Radar hitting and the blend of accessability and rage, the swing from near pop punk to total angsty hardcore that made them so special. Those same years would bring me Bane and American Nightmare amongst others...all bands that mixed the intensity of hardcore with the lyrical content of someone that wasn't 16 anymore. It may just be that i'm an adolescent at heart but the words from Under The Radar still make me roll down the windows and scream 20 years later.... Thank you It's always hard to meet the people that wrote the songs you love because quite often they disappoint you...I've been blessed that the bands that I've come to be friends with have all been just what I hoped they'd be when young me didn't have a camera in his hand. When I was just another kid screaming along and bouncing people around in the pit.... Thanks boys
