Cold Weather Shooting With CLS and Jessa

February 25, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

If you live in the Northeast you expect January and February to be cold. You don't expect the cold that we've had this year. Maybe I'm just getting older but this is about as cold as I remember for an extended period. If you live hear you already know this and if you don't you don't particularly care so why am i writing about the weather? Because i love shooting outside. Controlling the light. Creating images that i want to see. In this weather it's been hard to get my dog to go out to shoot never mind pretty women. This week I got very lucky and met up with a subject that defied logic in the face of bitter cold. She decided that she wouldn't just shoot but that she wanted to shoot in the cold with her leather jacket and her cool fishnet stockings. And nothing else. I jumped at the chance even though I knew it would be challenging and I wouldn't get exactly what I might have had in mind but I had to get out and shoot. It had been a while since I've had the chance and I wasn't going to back out because of something as insignificant as keeping feeling in my fingers.

All shots are with one Nikon SB-910 mounted on a Manfrotto Nano stand. With the wind and no helpers I knew it was a bare flash day and that was fine. The hard light was going to fit what i needed and what she was wearing. Jessa's skin was pretty flawless so there wasn't as much reason for an umbrella or other softener as there would be if I was trying for glamour or working with a model with less smooth skin.

Enjoy....
