July 5 2014 - Fireworks at the CarnivalCouldn't make it to the East River on Friday night for the big show. Zoe wanted to go to the park and we saw a sign for local fireworks and a carnival on the 5th. We headed over and she played at the park and then we explored a small carnival at the edge of Queens and Nassau. They had big signs advertising fireworks at 9pm. Z went on a few rides and then we found a spot where we thought we'd get a prime view of the show. 9 comes and goes. 920 comes and goes. It's dark now. Sun is down. 940. Z is starting to get a bit cranky and truthfully so am I. No announcement. Nothing. We decide to go. I ask a couple of cops on the way out what the deal was...thinking maybe it was a malfunction etc. "They moved it back to 10" That was the entirety of the explanation. I set up in a parking lot and shoot some stills of the "fireworks display" - they barely got over the carnival rides. and they were all bunched in one area so any long exposure became a mess. the only upside is that while i was waiting from 9-10 there were some locals setting off some pyrotechnics in the lot next to the carnival. 15 seconds at f 14 iso 100 - D4s with 16 2.8 Comments
